SUBSIDIZED TRAINING
Definition
These are employee training programs financed through bonuses applied
to Spanish Social Security contributions.
Subsidized training is a workforce training system financed through
Social Security bonuses. Companies can use FUNDAE credits to deliver
online courses, e-learning, classroom-based training and professional
skill development programs.
What is subsidized training?
Subsidized training programs are courses financed partially or fully
through training credits available to companies for employee
development. In Spain, these programs are usually managed through
FUNDAE (State Foundation for Employment Training), allowing companies
to recover part or all of the training costs through Social Security
bonuses.
- Subsidized training helps companies train employees with financial support
- Companies use available training credits
- They are commonly managed through FUNDAE
- They can be delivered online or onsite
What subsidized training is used for
Subsidized training helps improve employees' skills and competencies
without the company assuming the full training cost. It allows
companies to:
- Train employees
- Improve productivity and competitiveness
- Update professional knowledge
- Reduce training costs through bonuses
How subsidized training works
Companies have an annual training credit allocated for professional
development. The usual process for creating subsidized training is:
- The company selects the training course or learning program
- The training is delivered online or onsite
- The training is reported to FUNDAE
- The company applies the bonus to its Social Security contributions
Types and Formats of Subsidized Training
1- According to the Delivery Format
2- According to the Course Topic
3- Individual Training Leave (PIF)
PIF: Leave that allows employees to attend official training programs with recognized qualifications during working hours financed through the company’s training credit.
- Classroom-based: Physical classes in a classroom. Includes Virtual Classrooms / Telepresence, where classes are delivered live via videoconference (Zoom, Teams) with attendance tracking.
- E-learning (Online): Self-paced learning through an e-learning platform. Includes PDF content, exams and interactive exercises without fixed schedules.
- Blended Learning: Combination of classroom-based and online learning. It is considered blended when the classroom-based part exceeds 20% of the total course duration. Otherwise, it is classified as e-learning.
2- According to the Course Topic
- Specialized Training: Courses directly related to the technical activity of a role or industry (e.g. design software, advanced accounting, machinery operation).
- Cross-functional Training: Skills applicable across any industry (e.g. occupational risk prevention, languages, basic office software, human resources).
3- Individual Training Leave (PIF)
